A new Star Cops saga begins today
The Star Cops are back with monthly mini-series Blood Moon, and the first instalment, I Was Killed Yesterday, is out now from Big Finish Productions.
It’s the near future, and mankind has expanded its presence in space. Maintaining law and order beyond Earth is the responsibility of the International Space Police Force, known colloquially as the Star Cops. Their leader is Commander Nathan Spring.
Based on Chris Boucher’s TV series, which first aired in 1987 on BBC Two, Star Cops is a mashup of gritty police procedural with hard science fiction. Back on the interplanetary beat are original TV cast members David Calder (Commander Nathan Spring), Linda Newton (Chief Superintendent Pal Kenzy) and Trevor Cooper (Inspector Colin Devis).
I Was Killed Yesterday is the first part of a thrilling six-episode story arc, which will be released in monthly instalments from January to June 2024.
Star Cops – Blood Moon: I Was Killed Yesterday is now available to own as a collector’s edition CD at £10.99 or as a download at £8.99 exclusively here.
Investigating the brutal murder of a prominent neuroscientist at a South American spaceport, Nathan and Kenzy find themselves questioning an unusual witness – the murder victim himself. The trail leads to the Moon, where a recent arrival comes under suspicion. The new courier for Lunar Logistics may not be all she seems – but is she a killer?
Writer Andrew Smith said: “It’s always exciting to release a new Star Cops set, and this one particularly so. For the first time, we have a story arc that’s very personal for one of the Star Cops, and it begins here with a revelation that will have an impact on all the episodes that follow. Loyalties will be tested, and a very different threat faced.
“The idea behind I Was Killed Yesterday was one I’d had for some time. The Star Cops find themselves investigating a murder where they’re able to talk to the victim. The way they do that is based, as is always the case with our stories, on where we think science might actually be in forty years' time. Nothing too overtly sci-fi – no android duplicate and no time travel – our characters operate in what we envisage as the real world in the near future.”
The main cast members are joined throughout the Blood Moon mini-series by Philip Olivier as Inspector Paul Bailey and Lynsey Murrell as Inspector Alice Okoro. I Was Killed Yesterday also features the Star Cops debuts of Rosa Coduri (Funny Woman, The Tower) and Alex Jordan (Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, Unforgotten).
Star Cops – Blood Moon: I Was Killed Yesterday can be purchased as part of a bundle containing all six Blood Moon instalments, for £54.00 (on collector’s edition CD + download) or £45.00 (download only).
All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.
Please note: the collector’s edition CDs are strictly limited to a pressing of just 1,000 per episode.
Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mailout of collector’s edition CDs will be delayed, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.
