The War Doctor... Continues!
Delve further into the War Doctor’s origin story with two brand-new box sets of full-cast audio adventures, with the first due for release in May 2023 from Big Finish Productions.
Jonathon Carley returns with his critically-acclaimed portrayal of the Doctor’s warrior incarnation – originally played on screen by the late Sir John Hurt – in more war-torn tales set after the 50th anniversary Doctor Who mini-episode The Night of the Doctor.
Doctor Who – The War Doctor Begins: Comrades-in-Arms is now available to pre-order for just £19.99 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £16.99 (download only). December 2023’s Enemy Mine is also available to pre-order at the same price.
The three universe-shattering adventures in Comrades-in-Arms are as follows:
Mother's Love by Noga Flaishon
Berserker by Tim X Atack
Memnos by Phil Mulryne
Producer David Richardson said: “Following in the footsteps of the esteemed and much-loved Sir John Hurt was a daunting challenge. However, I’m delighted that this foray into the life of the young War Doctor has been such a success – thanks to the huge talent of Jonathon Carley, who continues to shine radiantly throughout this series. Here’s to many new adventures, friends, enemies and dilemmas in a universe falling apart at the seams...”
Praise for Doctor Who – The War Doctor Begins:
“Jonathan Carley’s approximation of Hurt’s grizzled warrior is startlingly accurate, both in terms of vocal intonation and actual performance.”
– Doctor Who Magazine
“There’s no replacing John Hurt, but Carley has all the spirit and fire of the War Doctor, and he absolutely sells the weight of centuries resting on the character’s weary, worn-torn shoulders.”
– We Made This Network
“This set owes much of its success to its Doctor. Carley excels at capturing the sound of early Eighties Hurt.”
– Warped Factor
[Jonathan Carley] has truly iconic shoes to fill and does so admirably; he is an uncanny vocal match for the much-missed John Hurt. It is also far more than an impersonation though, there is real emotional depth to the character.”
– CultBox
